How to create a suggestions channel with GuildPilot

Suggestions Only converts member ideas into consistent embeds and adds up-vote and down-vote reactions. You can also create a discussion thread under every published suggestion.

Before you start

  • Create the destination text or announcement channel.
  • Enable Message Content Intent for the active GuildPilot bot.
  • GuildPilot needs to read and manage messages, send embeds, add reactions and create threads when selected.

Warning: The feature transforms messages in the configured channel. Test it privately before applying it to an existing channel with ordinary conversation.

Create a suggestions channel

1. Open Suggestions Only

Open Moderation → Channel Settings, select Suggestions Only, then choose New configuration.

2. Select the channel

Enter a Configuration name and choose the Channel to restrict.

3. Configure suggestion behaviour

Under Suggestion behaviour, choose an Embed colour. Enable Create a discussion thread when every suggestion should have a dedicated reply area, then set the Thread name pattern.

4. Review the preview

Check the Discord Embed V1 preview. GuildPilot adds up-vote and down-vote reactions to each published suggestion.

5. Enable and save

Enable the configuration and select Save changes.

Use a discussion thread when the main channel should remain a compact list of ideas. Keep the thread-name pattern short and include the suggestion title placeholder shown by the editor.

Test the setup

  1. Post a harmless idea from a normal member account.
  2. Confirm that GuildPilot publishes the suggestion embed with both voting reactions.
  3. Open the generated discussion thread when enabled.
  4. Remove the test suggestion and thread after verification.

What a successful setup looks like

Member ideas appear as consistent GuildPilot embeds with voting reactions. Each configured thread is attached to the corresponding suggestion rather than becoming a separate top-level channel.

Common problems

Suggestions are not transformed

Cause: The configuration is disabled or Message Content Intent is unavailable.

Fix: Enable the intent and the saved configuration, then post a new test suggestion.

Voting reactions are missing

Cause: GuildPilot cannot add reactions in the destination channel.

Fix: Review the channel permission override for Add Reactions and access to message history.

The discussion thread is not created

Cause: Thread creation is disabled or the bot lacks permission to create threads.

Fix: Enable Create a discussion thread and grant the required channel permission.
